Which receipt do I need?
- A customer paid you in cash? Cash receipt
- Paid part of a bill, or by card or check? Payment receipt

- A tenant paid the rent? Rent receipt

What every receipt should show
- A receipt number and the date of the payment
- Who paid, and who received the money
- What the payment was for
- The amount, and for cash or larger sums the amount in words
- How it was paid, and any balance still owed
- A signature or the name of the person who received it
Some receipts need more. A donation receipt has its own wording for donors’ tax records, and some laws require a receipt for certain payments: in New York, for example, a landlord must give a receipt for rent paid in cash. Each template’s page explains what applies.
How these templates work
Each receipt is a form on the left and a page on the right that updates as you type. You can also click any text on the page to change it, choose a layout, and print two copies on one sheet where the layout allows.
What you type is saved only in your own browser, so your details are there next time on the same device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Frequently asked questions
Are these receipt templates free?
Yes. Every template is free, with no sign-up and no watermark on the receipt.
Can I save a receipt as a PDF?
Yes. Use Print / Save PDF and choose “Save as PDF”, or Download PDF to get a file you can email or share.
What is the difference between a receipt and an invoice?
An invoice asks for payment; a receipt confirms that payment was received. Send the invoice first, and give a receipt once you are paid.
Can I add my business name or logo?
Yes. Your name, address and contact details go on every receipt, and the sales receipt also takes a logo.
Do I need to keep a copy?
It is a good habit. Print two copies on one page where the layout allows, sign both, and keep one for your records.
Is a handwritten receipt valid?
Usually, if it shows the same details. A printed receipt is easier to read and to keep in order, and you can still sign it by hand.
