How to make a car for sale sign in 3 steps

  1. Describe the car

Year, make and model, the price (or leave it to write by hand), the mileage and a few words about it: one owner, new tires, clean title.

  2. Add tear-off tabs

Your phone number goes on 4 to 10 tabs along the bottom, so people walking past can take it with them.

  3. Print and post it

Print a full page and tape it inside a side window. Cut between the tabs, up to the dashed line.

What to put on a car for sale sign

  • “For Sale” in letters big enough to read from across the street.
  • Year, make and model, and the price. “Or best offer” (OBO) invites offers.
  • The mileage and two or three selling points: one owner, service records, new tires, clean title.
  • A phone number, in big digits and on the tear-off tabs.

Before you post it

  • Some cities do not allow cars parked on public streets to be offered for sale, or limit where they can be parked. Check your city’s rules.
  • Selling more than a few cars a year can count as dealing, which many states license. This sign is for selling your own car.
  • Be honest about the mileage and condition. When you agree a sale, write a bill of sale and sign the title over as your state requires.

Printing, cutting and posting

  1. Print at 100% (Actual size). Most printers cannot print the outer 1/4 inch, so the designs stay inside it.
  2. Cut along the dashed lines between the tabs, up to the line across the page.
  3. Tape the sign inside a side window facing the street, out of direct sun if you can, so the ink does not fade.

Frequently asked questions

Is this car for sale sign maker free?

Yes. It is free to use, needs no account or sign-up, and never adds a watermark or a SnapPaperwork logo to your sign.

Can I add tear-off phone number tabs?

Yes. Choose 4, 6, 8 or 10 tabs along the bottom of a full-page sign. They show the number you type, or your contact line.

Can I leave the price blank?

Yes. Leave it empty and the sign prints a line to write the price on, so you can change it without printing again.

Can I make a “Sold” sign?

Yes. Choose “Sold” to thank people who called and let them know the car has gone.

What paper sizes does it print on?

US Letter and A4, as a full page or as two half-page signs on one sheet (tear-off tabs are on full pages only).

Is my information uploaded or stored on your servers?

No. Everything you type stays in your browser and is never sent to me. It is saved on your own device so it is there next time.
