A QR code for your Yelp or Tripadvisor page, worded the right way
Paste the link to your business page on Yelp or Tripadvisor and this page makes a QR code that opens it, on a printed sign for the counter, the tables or the front desk.
The two sites have different rules on asking for reviews, so the sign’s words change with the site you choose. For Yelp the sign says “Find us on Yelp”, without asking for a review. For Tripadvisor it says “Review us on Tripadvisor”, which Tripadvisor itself suggests. Change the words if you like, but keep to each site’s rules.
How to make a Yelp or Tripadvisor QR sign
-
Choose the site and paste your link
Open your business page on Yelp or Tripadvisor and copy the address from the browser.
-
Scan the code
Check that it opens your own page. The form warns you if the link is not on the site you chose.
-
Print the sign
Full page for the door, half or quarter page for tables and the counter.
Yelp: do not ask for reviews
Yelp’s support page for business owners is clear: “Don’t ask anyone to review your business, be it customers, mailing list subscribers, friends, family, etc.” It also warns that “proactively asking for reviews may hurt your Yelp rating”, and that its software tries to spot reviews that were asked for and not recommend them.
That is why the Yelp sign only says “Find us on Yelp” and “Scan to see our page”. People who want to read your reviews, see your photos or check your hours can find you quickly, and those who want to write a review still can, without being asked.
Tripadvisor: asking is welcome, rewards are not
Tripadvisor’s own pages for businesses encourage asking guests for reviews, suggest a short line for staff (“We hope you enjoyed your stay with us…”) and mention cards and stickers with a QR code. So the Tripadvisor sign can say “Review us on Tripadvisor”.
Ask every guest the same way, not only the happy ones, and never offer anything in return. In the US, the FTC’s rule on consumer reviews forbids offering incentives on the condition that a review is positive or negative.

Where to put the sign
- On the front desk or by the till.
- On tables, on a quarter-page card in a stand.
- In a guest room, on the welcome card.
- By the door, so people can look you up later.

Frequently asked questions
Can my sign say “Leave us a review on Yelp”?
Yelp asks businesses not to ask for reviews and may not recommend reviews it thinks were asked for. The standard words here are “Find us on Yelp”, which only points people to your page.
Where do I find my page’s link?
Search for your business on yelp.com or tripadvisor.com, open your page and copy the address from the browser’s address bar.
Can I give a discount for a review?
No. Yelp asks businesses not to offer freebies, discounts or payment for reviews, and in the US the FTC rule forbids incentives that depend on the review being positive or negative.
Does the code open the app?
If the person has the Yelp or Tripadvisor app, their phone may open your page in it; otherwise it opens in the browser.
Does the code expire?
No. It is a static link to your page and works as long as the page does.
