Words on the sign

Words on the sign

The words follow the kind of code until you type your own.

Look Colours

Rounded and dots soften the squares; the three big corner squares stay solid so phones still find the code. Scan it with your phone before you print.

It changes with the kind of code until you type your own. Leave it empty for no line.

Logo in the middle (opt.)

With a logo the code switches to its strongest error correction, and the logo covers less than a fifth of its width. Kept in this browser only; not included in a share link.

Print size

Finished? Scan it with your phone, then save it

Pick a sign on the right. It opens the tool for that sign.

PNG for documents, slides and social posts; SVG for a print shop or a design app. Share link sends a link that shows this code, ready to scan: nothing is uploaded, the code travels inside the link.

Print at 100% (“Actual size”), not “Fit to page”. Scan one code from the printed page before you print or cut the rest.

Each of these makes the code and the paper it goes on, ready to print.

A QR code that starts an email or a text to you

An email QR code opens the phone’s email app with your address, a subject and a first line already filled in. An SMS QR code does the same for a text message. People only have to tap Send.

It is the easiest way to collect orders, questions, bookings or feedback from a counter, a market stall or a poster, without asking anyone to type an address. The code is static and made in your browser: nothing goes through a server.

How to make an email or SMS QR code

  1. Choose Email or SMS

Type your address or number. Add a subject or the first words of the message if you like.

  2. Check it with your phone

Scan the preview: your email or messages app should open with everything filled in.

  3. Print the sign

Pick the words and the size, then print it. Or save the code alone as a PNG or SVG.

Email or text: which one?

Use email for orders, quotes and anything people may want to attach a photo to. Use a text for quick questions, call-backs and “order ahead” at a café or food truck.

Write the first words for them, such as “Hi! I’d like to order”, so the message is easy to start and easy for you to sort.

What people see before they send

Nothing is sent by scanning. The phone opens a new message, the person can change it, and only they decide to send it. Text message rates of their phone plan may apply, which is why the sign mentions it.

Your address or number is visible to anyone who scans the code, as it would be on a business card. Use a work address or number if you prefer.

Where to put it

  • On the counter or by the card reader: “Questions? Text us”.
  • On a catering or cake order form.
  • On a poster or flyer, so people can reply later.
  • On a feedback card at the table.

Frequently asked questions

Does the code send the email by itself?

No. It only opens a new message. The person scanning checks it and taps Send.

Will it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Both open email (mailto) and text message codes from the camera app.

Can I put both an email and a text code on one sign?

This page makes one code per sign. Print the email sign, then switch to SMS and print the text sign. The half-page and quarter-page sizes print 2 or 4 copies of one sign on a sheet, to cut out.

Is my email address stored anywhere?

No. The code is made in your browser; what you type is saved only on your own device so the form is there next time.

Does the code expire?

No. It is a static code that works as long as the address or number does.
